Lots Of Sand
Yesterday was a good day. It started with a staff meeting at 8am, which was probably one of the best staff meetings I've ever been to, simply because they supplied breakfast.
The real reason it was a good day though was because some of us went out to the Waiti dunes at Bethells/Te Henga. If you've never been to them before, the Waiti dunes are a MASSIVE pile of sand-dunes randomly next to a lake located in the middle of nowhere, about a kilometre from the coast. These sand dunes are absolutely massive, and I wish I had taken a photo of them - they stretch for probably about a kilometre, and when you first see them, the only thing you can say is some variation of "WOW!"
The best part about them isn't the scale though, or the sense of utter isolation, but the fact that a stream runs along the edge of them, and where the dunes border the stream they basically drop away in an almost vertical wall which is probably about 3 - 7 stories high, depending on what part of the dunes you are at. This is awesome for jumping off or tobogganing down! Unfortunately we discovered that cardboard boxes don't toboggan well.
Kat managed to snap this awesome photo though. The photo is of Gary, Liam and I, and as a photo it just works really well! It'd make a good painting:
